The Umbrella Academy: into the superhero world

Overview: The Umbrella Academy is an American superhero thriller TV series created for Netflix by

Gerald Way, which is originally based on a comic book of the same name. The series comprises of three seasons, and yet to release their another and final season this year around August. The cast showcases seven siblings, namely, number five, Viktor, Klaus, Luther, Diego, Allison, and Ben. 

The Umbrella Academy is a show about seven siblings, who were born at the same day, same time, and later adopted by a billionaire man, turning them into a superhero team. They had a robot mother to look after them, however, they weren't aware of her status, until later. The show starts off with the siblings reuniting at the funeral of their father, and their sibling Vanya (Viktor), feeling inferior amongst them as usual, as she possessed no powers of their own. 

The story involves, time traveling, where the so-called siblings reunite and learn that they are needed to stop a future apocalypse, which can wipe down the Earth. However, they didn't know what was waiting ahead of their plan. 

Character Overview: Luther, the eldest of them all, turned into an ape, and was sent to spend his four years on the moon. He is the most obedient child and never wants to disappoint his father, even so, he agrees and obeys every of his cruel comments and decisions. However, he possesses the power of strength. A hopeless romantic, his heart is more tender than his physical appearance. 

Allison, the famous actress of the family, possesses the power to whisper, which usually starts with "I heard a rumor...", and controls the mind of the people, later she realizes she can control minds, without using such a phrase. She is one of the strong-headed personalities, she doesn't back down from what she wants and will take it at any cost. 

Viktor, previously known as Vanya, was the most ignorant character of the series until others found out the truth. Possessed with enormous power, they were thrashed by their father the most. no one acknowledged their presence due to lack of their power but soon he discovered his worth. He has the power to convert sound waves into physical force. He came out as a trans man later in the 3rd season and came to be known as Viktor, in correspondence with the actor's real-life transition. 

Diego, the rebellious one of the family, was a troublemaker who manipulated the trajectory of moving objects with his mind. Jealous of number one or Luther, he left home to become a vigilante. In later seasons he has a kid, named Blake, who resembles himself a lot. 

Lila, the mother of Diego's child, and in possession of mystery powers, was born in the same day as others, she could reflect one's power, which the academy was unaware of, until later.  

Number five, the smartest and most intelligent of all, he possesses the power to jump through time and space. Traveling through time, he got aware of the future apocalypse, as he traveled to the post days. He later returned somehow to his family and turned into a 13-year-old boy to warn about them further future. His plans, all were pretty smart, but the future had some other plans for him. 

Klaus, the pot-drug addict member, had the power to talk or communicate with the dead or temporarily make someone corporeal. Later, he discovered he possessed the power of immortality and could revive himself or heal himself. He was the only person who was able to communicate with their dead sibling, Ben, one of the other superhuman children born on the same day. 

Another mention-worthy character is Sloane, the wife of Luther, with whom he fell in love during a rivalry between two academics of the parallel world in later seasons. She possessed the power to manipulate gravity. 

And The Handler, the adopted mother of Lila, played a major role in most of the events, in later seasons. 

Season 4: This season is yet to be released, and the audience has many expectations from it, after such an amazing and thrilling cliffhanger scene at the end of Season 3. The final season of the series is reported to be released in August 2024. 

Conclusion: 

The Umbrella Academy is perfect for people who would love some sci-fi, different than the mainstream ones. Though it is based on a superhero theme, it does have a great garnishing of thriller and mystery, which will always keep the viewers on their toes.
