Overview: Bridgerton is an American historical romantic TV series, created by Chris Van Dusen for Netflix, which is adapted from a book series written by Julia Quinn. The series comes with 3 seasons, highlighting mainly three love tropes or stories, set during the early 1800s.
The series mostly revolves around high-society families, attending balls to find appropriate and suitable match for their kids of age. The series starts with showing the coming out of the new age girls to society by introducing themselves to the queen of England and making them available for a husband or suitor.
It is based on the 1800s England background and the notable families, who shared the most screen time are, the Royal family, the Bridgerton family, the Featherington family, the Cowper family, the Basset family, the Sharma family, and the Danbury. The series is seen narrating by an old lady, named Lady Whistledown, who is the biggest mystery woman in the town and, nonetheless, the most influential one with the hot gossip too.
Season 1:
Character Overview: The first season showcases the love trope of the character, Daphne Bridgerton, who is the fourth child of the Viscount and Viscountess Bridgerton. Though she might look timid and quiet, she can be stubborn and brave when required, and being the 'perfectionist' of the family, she always strived to set an example for her younger sisters who were set to be out in the following years. Just like her parents, she always wanted a love match and she fell in love too.
Simon Basset, the child who raised himself and doesn't believe in marriage much, setting foot into London might have been a mistake for him, as a handsome man like him is hard to ignore any 'hungary mummas' eyes. However, encountering Daphne did change the entire course of his life, unexpectedly.
Season 2:
Character Overview: Anthony Bridgerton, the household and to-be Viscount of the home, is the eldest child to the late Viscount and Viscountess Bridgertons. Raised himself and his siblings, however, has been troublesome with his actions toward his family sometimes. When deciding to marry this season, he met the season's diamond, but will she turn out to be the love of his life eventually?
Edwina Sharma, the diamond of the season as declared by the queen, having returning to London to find a good suitor, its a much burden on a girl from India. However, so obedient to her elder sister, she was to find her love match amongst the crowd, so Anthony Bridgerton when approached. She started falling for him, but naive she was to think her feelings were reciprocated.
Miss Kate Sharma, the rebellious elder sister, sacrificed her whole life training her younger one, just for her to find an eligible suitor. But what happens when her sister falls in love with someone whom she didn't find amusing enough? How about the unexpected future, she had ahead of her, where she chose herself for the first time ever.
Eloise Bridgerton, the rebellious kid of the family, youngest to Daphne it has always been hard for her to behave like the normal girls of her age as well as actually put some effort into finding a suitor for her, as she never believed in such a marriage where she was born just to be a wife and nothing more. She believed a woman could do anything if she wanted to, and can't deny, that she seemed the most mature character (to me) of all, as she wasn't willing to just give in to society's norms, and never cared what others thought of her.
Theo is a commoner who works hard to maintain the daily affairs at a printer place right down the alleys where no high-profile family visits. Finding a friend in Eloise and falling for her, was ensured as the biggest mistake as their social status never allowed them to be together.
Season 3:
Character Overview: Penelope Featherington, having a different body image was never really attractive in society, this showed how even in her third season out, she wasn't able to find a good suitor. Having changed her looks, she was still low in confidence and the most criticized of all. She didn't deserve all of that, but when Lord Debling showed interest in her, it provoked the emotions of someone for whom she has been earning since childhood.
Colin Bridgerton, a passionate traveler, whose stories of travel never ends. Suddenly catching the eye of young ladies after returning from a trip this season, was a little hurtful to Penelope, even if she didn't admit to him. But even he didn't realize when friendship turned into such a huge event, where he would end up with someone he never imagined.
Francesca Bridgerton, another seems to be a perfectionist of the family after Daphne, she seemed rather unpredictable to all. Although ready to find a suitor for herself, she was found to be disappointed at every step, until she did and that altered her life events sooner.
Season 3 has been divided into parts, the second one which is coming up later in June 15. This season comprises 16 episodes altogether, unlike other seasons. This has riled up the excitement and anxiety amongst the audience manifold to find out what happens at the end. Do we have guesses?
Other characters, in all seasons, involve Queen Charlotte, though seems tough is very easy to please, bearing a tougher exterior, our queen is all the more a soft person from the inside. Her all-time companion, Lady Danbury, is widowed and the initial matchmaker of the town, no one can turn down her words, not even the queen, she's the ultimate right hand and true friend.
Violet Bridgeton, the Viscountess is an exceptional mother, who thinks of nothing but the good of her children. After the death of her love and husband, she raised the kids, so very dearly. When it comes to her kids, Benedict Bridgerton deserves a mention, indulged in the world of art, he seemed quite different than the rest of the troop, but will he be able to find someone who shares the same passion as him? or just a meaningless affairs here and there?
Lady Featherington and her other two daughters, other than Penelope Featherington, are also some of the mention-worthy characters of the show.
Queen Charlotte: A part of this very show, which showcases the background or the raw life of the queen of England, and her love affair with the king, which has also given the most used and admired quote, “i will stand with you between the heavens and the earth, do you love me"
Conclusion: Bridgerton depicts the high-class society, its ethics, and culture, most beautifully and aesthetically. One couldn't wave away from watching it. Language precision is also another thing. However, it also subtly shows the status of women and men in society, back in the day. How men were given almost every other right, the right to choose for themselves, whereas, women seemed to be born to be a wife and a mother and nothing more could have been seen. The end results of such marriage were not always cruel, but irrespective of such, most couples were seen as just there for their children and nothing more, a contract to reproduce rather than a marriage, obviously, we have our exceptions. Nonetheless, the show didn't stop from including every aspect of the then world and portray in the most beautiful way possible. Your genre or not, this is your must-watch.
