How I Met Your Mother: So kids, this is the story of how I met your mother

Overview: How I Met Your Mother, also called HIMYM, is an American sitcom that aired from September 19, 2005, to March 31, 2014, created by Craig Thomas and Carter Boys for CBS. The characters of this show, namely, Ted Mosby, Barney Stinson, Marshall Erikson, Lily Aldrin, and Robin Scherbatsky, are a group of five friends, going through all sorts of life changes.

The story is narrated by Ted Mosby and mostly revolves around the journey of how he met his wife and the mother of his kids, along with his memories and moments with his friends. As you see kids, the story has its own yellow and blue color theory (for which you have to watch the series), which makes the entire journey of how Ted met the mother of his kids, really interesting.

However, not only, does the story showcase the journey of Ted ending up with the love of his life, but it also shows the journey of his friends, from people in their youth, hanging in a bar, gossiping about their lives and plotting a fun activity to spice it up, which always turns out to be "legen...wait for it...DARY!" to adults, learning when to get responsible and serious with their life planning.

HIMYM does not only talk about the journey of these five friends but also the silly things they have done in between and amongst every other issue they face, they have their friends to cheer them up, and all they need is their mandatory booth and a glass of beer.

Character Overview: When it comes to the characters, the narrator, Ted Mosby, is an architect, who loves to abbreviate words and be the "mature" and "rational" one of the group. However, when it comes to love, according to his friends, he can be a hopeless romantic who is looking for that one 'soulmate' he could settle in with. But somehow he always ends up in the bar with his friends, sipping on drinks and making resolutions he might break any second, until the end. But always listen to what Ted said, "Nothing good happens after 2am"

When talking about Ted we have to bring Barney Stinson, the guy he accidently met and became most close with. Barney, the master of "legendary" things, needs to 'suit up' every occasion he gets. especially when the occasion involves some hot girls. He won't deny any kind of challenge related to girls and is one of the richest friends in the group. But no one knows where and what is his job. Undeniably, he has to be one of the smart friends as well, at the same time, no one can match his pace when it comes to his flirting games.

Coming up is Ted's college best friend, Marshall Eriksen, the lawyer of the group who has a passionate love for the environment. The 'gentle-giant' of the group, who can be really stubborn when it comes to standing his ground, but can't say a word against Lily, for good reasons of course. He knows how to fight for what he stands for, and no doubt as a lawyer is a brilliant brain of all. Behind his soft nature, resides the father of the group, who wouldn't shy away from responsibilities, and is a big fan of traditions.

After Marshall, it's Lily Aldrin, the teacher and 'mother' of the group, who has a passion for art. She might seem like a soft person outside, but don't get fooled by her height, she can be one of the fierce and intimidating people when triggered. She is the most mature friend in the group, who is always there for her friends when they need them, guiding and helping them. As Lily said, "The biggest mistake would be not to make that mistake because then you'll go your whole life not knowing if something was a mistake or not", she made everyone feel the need for a Lily in their life.

Last but not least, Robin Scherbatsky, a hard-core Canadian of the group, came to New York to work as a journalist. Robin is one of the strongest friends in the group, who is not afraid of voicing out her opinion and does what she wants, and no one can stop her. However, she is the person who would prefer to jump off a cliff than face her fear of commitment. She is confident and knows when to play her face card when needed. At the same time, there is never a boring moment with Robin, our Canadian friend who doesn't know how to spoil sport.

HIMYM comes along with a lot of flavors, from sad to romantic, to wholesome to just crying out a river. The contrasting characters build up the most wholesome friend group, who definitely doesn't know when to be boring. Every other day, brings up new experiences for them, showing 'the kids' what a legendary life their father had along with their uncles and aunts.

Conclusion: HIMYM, has faced a lot of criticism regarding their cast and their resemblance to other American sitcom series, however, the show is also one of the famous watch for a reason. It's a must-watch for people, who would like to break their monotony rom-com trend and explore some more. Tops the bucket list of sitcom lovers.
